Thijsse's Hof was created in 1925 on former potatoe plots in the Bloemendaal Forest on the occassion of Dr. Jac. P. Thijsse's sixtieth birthday. Right from the beginning it was Thijsse's intention to present the native plants of Kennemerland in natural vegetations which develop (largely) spontanously.
The official name is: Thijsse's Hof, Plant- and Birdgarden in the Bloemendaal Forest. This means you can also see wild birds living or foraging in this natural habitat. About 25 species of breeding birds build their nests at the Hof every year.
The Hof is managed by a private foundation with many volunteers and one gardener-administrator employed.
